Kudos to the girls' varsity and frosh-soph track and field teams for winning team titles at the Covina High School Cougar Classic Track And Field Invitational on Saturday, defeating second place Los Osos High School of Rancho Cucamonga 152-81 on the varsity, and handily on the junior varsity also. There were numerous point scorers...with the last victories in the 4X400 meter relays...Alexa Brown, Brooke Kather, Jennifer Konishi, and Angelica Douglas for the frosh-soph...Cassandra Smith, Michelle Wicker, Cathryn Saylor, and Monica Todd(57.7 anchor) for the varsity. Again, too many for this tired coach to name...kudos to all who competed...A great day for the Mustangs...

Bio Coach Kelly
Dennis Kelly -- Girl's Head Coach
Coach Kelly begins his fourth season as the head girls' track and field coach, and fifth year overall in the program. In charge of the sprints (100, 200 & 400) and relays for the girls, Coach Kelly is also the head girls' cross country coach. A sophomore English teacher at THHS, he also toiled for two seasons on the girl's basketball staff as a frosh/soph and junior varsity coach. Previous to his current tenure at THHS, Coach Kelly taught and coached for nine years combined at Bellflower (seven years) and Mayfair High School (two years) in Lakewood. He was the girl's varsity basketball head coach for two seasons at Mayfair and an assistant girl's varsity basketball coach for seven seasons at Bellflower. Coach Kelly was a junior varsity softball coach and girl's cross country coach for one season each at Mayfair, and served six seasons on the girl's track staff at Bellflower, four as the head coach. He earned his BA and MA in English from Cal State Dominguez Hills, and is a graduate of St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower. Coach Kelly's high school track and field 3200 meter PR of 9:33.6, achieved during his senior year, still ranks in the top five all-time at his alma mater.
